The support at home program is a new in-home aged care program planned to be implemented by 1 July 2025. The new program is an overhaul of the current in-home care program and aims of addressing several current issues with the current program.
In-home care programs such as the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) and the Home Care Package Program (HCP), will continue until June 30, 2025.
The following Issues are being addressed in the new program for in-home aged care.
- Wait times are too long.
- Application process is confusing.
- High fees
- Services are not always well targeted.
- Seniors do not always get all the help they need
More options and control over services – give people the choice between working with one or several providers. Seniors may use this option to get the care that best suits their needs. To make paying service providers easier, this might entail a new payment platform.
The new program will aim to develop realistic prices for each service that include administration, travel, and other costs.
In the new program, service providers will have extra funds in a funding pool at their disposal to meet the changing needs of their clients under the new scheme. For instance, if an individual requires temporary transportation, their provider may use funds from the funding pool to cover the cost of these extra services.
